Helping Fellow Students Optimise Study Habits

June 25, 2026

Supporting others is a genuine passion for our Academic Captain, Amelia, who is juggling Year 12 with workshops she devised to help fellow students with their study.

Amelia designed a series of popular Study Skills Workshops and tailored them to all Senior School ages, study styles and confidence levels.
The first 10-15 minutes focused on engaging the younger students through group activities, followed by Year 12 students sharing tips in areas such as time management, note-taking, revision and wellbeing.

The sessions ended with an outline of resources and tasks that could be used, particularly in the leadup to mid-year exams.

Amelia, who hopes to study law at Monash University next year, proposed the 60 minute after school sessions as part of her pitch to become Academic Captain. Teachers helped ensure the workshops were structured to function practically, and fellow senior students assisted with sessions.

“I was responsible for creating each session plan, deciding how the sessions would run, and selecting activities that would be engaging and useful for students,” Amelia says.

“My aim was for students to leave each session feeling more prepared, whether that was through learning how to manage their time, revise effectively, approach exams, or ask for support when they needed it.

“More broadly I hoped the program would remind students that academic success is not something they have to work towards alone, and that collaboration and encouragement can make a significant difference.”

Amelia juggled the “super fun” sessions with her study of English, General Maths, Legal studies, Psychology, Business Management, and a Management & Law subject with Deakin University. She says it was encouraging to see students from different year levels attend consistently, participate in the activities and engage with the strategies taught.

Feedback was positive from students and teachers who praised the engagement and organisation.

“I think the most effective part of the program is that it is not just about telling students to ‘study harder’ but giving them practical strategies they can use,” Amelia says.

Our Principal, Fiona Williams, says while the school is fortunate to have a capable and caring group of student leaders, Amelia’s initiative is truly exceptional.

“The study program she designed and delivered reflects a level of planning, collaboration and educational insight well beyond her years,” Ms Williams says. “What she has created is not only effective, but inspirational – particularly coming from someone who is still a student herself. Amelia has set a new benchmark for what student leadership can look like.”

Amelia hopes this is the first of many such projects. “I have always been passionate about people and driven by a desire to help others in meaningful ways,” she says. “I hope to use my education and future career to support those who are less fortunate and contribute to a fairer, more compassionate society. I really love helping people.”
