Our camps program is an essential component of the holistic education at Casey Grammar School.
The learning associated with camps is unique and contributes to the development of resilience, independence, teamwork, confidence and strong connections between students and staff. All these skills support students with the hurdles of learning and life. Improved resilience is not something that can be fully developed in the absence of genuine challenge.
Our varied and carefully calibrated camps program, beginning in Year 3, provides a unique and rich learning experience for our students – they are great fun too!
Students are expected to attend all camping experiences throughout their years at Casey Grammar School to allow additional opportunities to flourish and assist them with building essential life skills.
Year 3 Adventure Camp
The Year 3 Adventure Camp at Forest Edge in Neerim South marks an exciting milestone for our students: their very first overnight camp experience.
Set in a beautiful natural environment, this one-night camp is designed to gently introduce students to life away from home while building confidence, independence, and teamwork.
Through a range of engaging outdoor activities, students develop resilience and form stronger connections with their peers, all while having fun in a safe and supportive setting. It’s a memorable beginning to their camp journey and a highlight of the Year 3 experience.
Year 4 City Camp
The Year 4 City Camp offers students an exciting opportunity to explore the vibrant heart of Melbourne.
This multi-day experience encourages independence and curiosity as students immerse themselves in the cultural, historical, and civic life of the city. From visiting iconic landmarks and engaging in hands-on learning activities, students gain a deeper understanding of urban environments and how communities function.
The City Camp also helps strengthen friendships and social skills, making it a memorable and enriching part of the Year 4 journey.

Year 5 Historical, Cultural and Adventure Camp
The Year 5 Camp offers students a dynamic and memorable experience that blends historical exploration with outdoor adventure.
The journey begins with a day at Sovereign Hill, where students are immersed in the atmosphere of Australia’s gold rush era, gaining insight into life in the 1850s. Following this, students travel to an Adventure Camp in Creswick for two days of outdoor challenges and team-building.
Highlights include the twin flying fox and giant swing, which encourage students to step outside their comfort zones, build resilience, and strengthen peer connections. This camp is a key part of the Year 5 experience, supporting personal growth in a fun and supportive environment.
Year 6 Canberra Touring Camp
The Year 6 Canberra Touring Camp is a highlight of the final year in Junior School, offering students a rich and engaging experience in Australia’s capital city.
Over four days, students fly to and from Canberra to explore key national institutions and deepen their understanding of Australian history, government, and science. Highlights include visits to Parliament House (both old and new), the Australian War Memorial, the Australian Institute of Sport, and Questacon – the National Science and Technology Centre.
Through these experiences, students gain valuable insights into citizenship and democracy, learning how Australia’s political system operates and how individuals can contribute to their communities. This camp not only enhances classroom learning but also fosters independence, teamwork, and a sense of national identity, making it a memorable and meaningful conclusion to the Junior School journey.
Year 7 Camp
Our Year 7 camp is designed to enable students to build relationships with their peers and some of their teachers. These relationships are the foundation for a successful transition and for learning as each student adjusts to the changes associated with secondary school.
Our Year 7 students have a three-day (two-night) program at Mill Valley Ranch in Tynong. This program is supported by student leaders (from Year 9) who work with the staff and the Year 7 students to encourage them to move out of their comfort zone during some of the challenges and to foster healthy relationships between the groups.
Year 8 Camp
The Year 8 camp builds on the experiences from previous years with a four-day (three-night) program at Lyrebird Park (Yellingbo, in the Upper Yarra Valley).
The activities on this program have been carefully chosen to offer an appropriate level of challenge for students at this age and build skills needed for the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award in Year 9.
Activities include mountain bike riding, kayaking, caving and many more. There are many opportunities for the level of challenge to be adjusted for individual students in this program.
Year 9 Camp
All Year 9 students will be enrolled in the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award as part of their Casey Challenge subject.
There will be further information early in the year for families and students, but the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award is made up of four sections: physical recreation, skills, voluntary service and an adventurous journey.
Our Year 9 students’ camp program will allow them to complete the adventurous journey component of the Bronze Award.
Our Year 9 students undertake two completely different camps: a non-residential City Experience and the aforementioned Adventurous Journey program. This program requires a level of planning, independence and organisation, building upon the skills developed through the camp program and the content of the Casey Challenge subject in Year 9.

Year 11/12 retreat
Our Year 10 and Year 11 students both take part in a retreat, rather than an outdoor education camp.
Year 10 students travel to Camp Manyung in Mt Eliza, after their Semester One examinations, for a time of personal reflection and growth.
The Year 11 students undertake their retreat (held at Golden Valleys Adventure Camp in Flinders) in the days before they commence Year 12 Early Commencement. This gives them the space to reflect on their years of education thus far before being challenged and inspired to tackle Year 12 while supporting each other and expressing gratitude for those who have supported them along the way.
Please note:
Students are expected to attend all camps throughout Junior School and Senior School as these form a unique and essential part of our program of learning.
In the case of a student’s non-attendance at camp, payment is still required to cover their pre-booked food, services and accommodation.
