Junior School Report

May 5, 2026 – Edition 5

Welcome back to Term 2

I hope the break provided an opportunity for connection and rest, and that everyone is returning ready for another exciting and productive term ahead!

My sincere thanks to our teachers and families for their time and commitment during the recent Parent/Teacher Interviews. These conversations are such an important part of supporting each student’s learning journey. They provide a valuable opportunity to celebrate progress, identify next steps and strengthen the partnership between home and school, which is essential for student success.

A special thank you also to the Year 6 students who so confidently hosted our Welcome Assembly last week. It was a wonderful way to begin the term, reflecting on the many highlights from Term 1. These included the Athletics Carnival and Cross Country and the important messages shared during Harmony Week. It was a wonderful reminder of the vibrant and inclusive community we are so proud to be part of.

I’d like to make special mention to Kaya in Year 5 who sang “Ave Maria” for us. It was a phenomenal performance, thanks Kaya. Congratulations also to our Values Award recipients who were recognised for consistently demonstrating our school values. What a fantastic achievement!

One of the standout experiences over the past fortnight was the Year 4 Camp to CYC City Camp in Collins Street, Melbourne. Students enjoyed a rich program of activities that included visits to the Eureka Skydeck, the MCG and the Aquarium.

These experiences not only supported their learning but also encouraged independence, resilience and teamwork. I was very grateful for the opportunity to attend and witness firsthand the enthusiasm and positive spirit of our students.

Thank you to the staff who gave their time and energy to make this camp such a success: Mrs Harvie, Mrs Britton Bird, Mrs Kyne, Mrs Willett, Ms Humphrey, and it was most ably led by Mr Bell. Camps such as these simply wouldn’t be possible without their dedication and care.

We look forward to another busy and rewarding term ahead, filled with learning, growth and community connection.

Early Years

Our Foundation – Year 2 students have explored the school garden, engaged in outdoor activities, and celebrated much loved traditions like the Teddy Bear Picnic and the Easter Bonnet Parade. Each activity has been embraced with enthusiasm and joy!

During our first Foundation Nature Navigators session, students spent the morning outdoors planting snow peas and exploring the school vegetable garden with Mr Randell, where they learned about the different plants growing.

They also took part in a cooking activity which involved making herb butter with fresh herbs from the garden, then enjoying it on warm rolls. Another highlight was working with our Art Captains to make their names with nature. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to further explore our school grounds.

The Teddy Bear Picnic was held on Pyjama Day, and students brought along their favourite teddy bears. They gathered outside on picnic rugs to share snacks and enjoy some dancing. The Foundation students made special teacup biscuits, Year 1 students decorated a teddy bear biscuit and Year 2 students made fairy bread for their picnic.

On the last day of Term 1, excitement was in the air for the Easter Bonnet Parade. All students proudly showcased their beautifully decorated bonnets from the PAC stage. It was a lovely way to finish a wonderful term.

Year 1 students created a beautiful red poppy garden to commemorate ANZAC Day. They carefully crafted each poppy while learning about the importance of remembering and honouring those who served. Our Principal, Mrs Williams, also contributed by adding a special poppy to the garden.

We have an exciting and busy month ahead, with many special events and celebrations planned.

Cross Country

On 27 March, our Junior School students competed in Cross Country. It was a pleasure to see the excitement of our Foundation – Year 2 students as they prepared to take part, as well as the sportsmanship displayed from all four Houses. It was a nail-biting finish, but I am very proud to report that Leaver House took home the winning Cup!

My congratulations to all students who competed enthusiastically on the day. A special mention to my Leaver Legends and our 2026 House Captains, Abheek M and Myra I 6M, who did a fabulous job leading their House to victory!
