Term 2 is a Big One from a Career Education Perspective.
In Week 4, over 300 students and their parents/guardians attended the annual Subject Selection Expo on Tuesday, 12 May, leading into my one-on-one meetings with all Year 10 students to discuss their VCE programs and career pathways.
It has been a pleasure working with each student to better understand their life goals, and I am excited to support them over the next couple of years in their transition from Casey Grammar School.
The one-on-one meetings will continue into Week 9 of Term 2, and Year 10 students are encouraged to check the Casey Daily each day to confirm their scheduled meeting time.
GAT Preparation Information Session
On Wednesday, 27 May, all Year 11 and Year 12 students attended a GAT Information Session, delivered by Ben Taylor (The English Lab).
What is the GAT?
The General Achievement Test (GAT) is undertaken by all students who are enrolled in a VCE 3/4 Unit. It seeks to evaluate a student’s overall knowledge and abilities in three subjects: English, Mathematics, and Humanities.
The GAT is used as part of a final check on external assessment scores. If there is a significant statistical difference between the final score for an external assessment and the score predicted by the GAT and school indicative grades, the external assessment will be assessed again by the chief assessor. Scores may go up or stay the same, but they will not go down because of this final check.
The English Lab provides targeted General Achievement Test (GAT) preparation sessions for schools and individuals, focusing directly on mastering the GAT’s Section A and B writing tasks.
Ben’s session was both engaging and informative. We feel confident that his session will support our students to feel ‘ready’ for the GAT – which is being held on Tuesday 16 May.
