The Power of Encouragement
Last term, we celebrated our Booth and Leaver House Chapel service with the theme ‘You Raise Me Up’.
We focused on the people who have encouraged, supported and lifted us up to be the people we are today. We reflected on the story of Jesus healing the man let down through the roof of a house (Luke 5).
The Houses worked together to create collaborative artworks that were displayed on either side of the stage. These featured seven fires with representatives of the various members of the House, as well as their overall sense of community.
It was wonderful to hear from our House Captains as they reflected on the theme.
Isabella, Captain of Booth, shared:
It goes to show that ‘lifting someone up’ or ‘raising their spirits’ doesn’t have to be a strenuous task. It’s the quiet encouragement, the behind-the-scenes support that matters most.
In Booth and Leaver, I’ve seen that kind of support time and time again. People look out for one another and truly celebrate each other’s successes.
This community doesn’t happen by accident. It is built through kindness, respect and a shared belief that we’re stronger together.”
Lilly, Captain of Leaver, also reflected on the theme:
“No one gets through school or life completely on their own. There was a point in my life when I was struggling. I felt mentally drained and overwhelmed.
In the middle of that, my parents were there. They didn’t hand me a magical solution or pretend to have all the answers, but they sat with me, they listened and they reminded me of a few simple things:
- It is okay to feel low sometimes
- It is okay to be struggling
- Most importantly, I wasn’t alone
It was fantastic to see the two Houses coming together, including in the musical item which involved all students in Booth and Leaver. Sincere thanks to Mrs Trovato and Mr Vandenberg, the Wellbeing staff and the students involved in making the service possible.

We Are All Part of the Big Family of God
Late last term, our Year 1 students gathered together in their classes with family members to share in their first class Chapel service.
It was wonderful to welcome siblings, parents and grandparents to witness our students singing, dancing and reflecting on God’s family and the Old Testament stories they have been exploring in Religious Education.
Thank you to Mrs Mathews and to all of our special guests who joined us.
One Hand to Help Ourselves, One Hand to Help Others
Once again our students and staff volunteered at Backpacks 4 Vic Kids (B4VK) during the holidays. We continue to be committed to our relationship with B4VK, and it is always a delight to welcome new students to volunteer as well as those who return holiday after holiday to give their time for students in out-of-home care.
Every time I attend, I am struck by the need, and by the power of small actions that make a difference in the lives of others. A particular acknowledgement to our School Captain, Tania, who has returned over many years and has now had her last trip to B4VK with us. It is wonderful having students across all year levels working together to help others.
If you have any as-new clothing, blankets or backpacks that you would like to donate, please feel free to contact me at m.riviere-pendle@caseygrammar.vic.edu.au for details of how you can do this.
Every blessing in the week ahead.
